Wheel Vibration

I have a question concerning a "new" vibration in the wheel: I have started getting a serious "shake" in the Edson pedestal mounted wheel when under power going forward. I don't think it is the engine (Atomic 4), that seems to be running smoothly. This did not start until this spring after the boat sat idle all winter (early Nov. until early Apr.) Could this be caused by build up of more growth on one side of the rudder than the other? Water here (lake Lanier in GA) is still too cold to be diving under the boat. Any Ideas?

I suspect you got it

build up of gunk on the rudder or possibly something stuck on the rudder. You might try to stroke the rudder with a long handles brush and see of that helps.

If the vibration is only there when under power and is gone under sail at the same speeds then it's related to the engine/powertrain system. Fouled prop? Broken prop? Misfiring motor? Misaligned motor? Bent prop shaft? jmho. Dan

I get what you mean about under sail/under power. I don't get the "vibration" when under sail, but the helm does try to pull to one side. Since I have not had a chance to get under the boat and look, I can't say about the prop (non-folding). I will attempt to brush off the rudder and see if that helps. I don't think it is the engine since it runs smoothly and I didn't have this problem last fall before buttoning down for the winter (boat stays in a slip all winter - no big deal here in GA). I will keep you appraised of the situation.. Thanks for the replys gang!
