I bought my 30'er 15 years ago. She is a sweet boat and we have had a lot of good times on her. One of the things missing when I got her was the wheel lock knob. You know the thing that gets screwed into the side of the post and keeps the wheel from moving. I have been looking for a replacement for a very long time. If anyone can help me out with this , please contact me at ...jelllis@rand-display.com . Thanks

what type of pedestal?

Jeff: What type of pedestal do you have? If it is an Edson, then you should be able to get the parts from them. If it is a Merriman Y/S you can purchase it from the Sailboatowners.com store.

Edson?

If it is an Edson then you can purchase that separately. My '79 H37C Edson has the wheel brake. The page in the Link below is the Edson catalog contents. But you will need Acrobat to view the catalog.

Don's problem.

Cannot imagine how a wheel brake could be defective. On my 1979 Edson pedestal it will "lock" the wheel. You can tighten it easily and the wheel will not budge. I guess if some chain lube got onto the brakepads it might slip. Or did the design change that much from 1979?

Shaft Diameter

Ed, The brake pads bear directly on to the 1" diameter shaft of the wheel, but the wheel is 48" diameter and can require some effort to turn it even at this diameter. The brake pads don't stand a chance of "locking" the shaft. Edson now admit it. My boat is 1996. Regards,
