We are new owners of a 2005 Hunter 260 that was never commissioned and have a couple questions about the helm steering and outboard linkages. Our boat did not come with the stock outboard from factory but was supplied with an Evinrude 9.9 that was mounted but never connected to the shifting, throttle, or electrical linkage..
Question # 1 - The linkage that is leading aft from the Edson steering pedestal has threaded linkages and the Evinrude has flat rod ends with a drilled hole for a pin, are there adapters for the threaded linkages?
Question # 2 There is wiring leading up from the stern and branches to the stern light and runs foreword into the steering locker under the steering pedestal but I don’t see any plug to connect the outboard to the boat wiring for charging the boat battery.
Question # 3 On the Edson steering pedestal there are instructions to disengaged the wheel lock prior to using but I only have foreword/reverse and throttle levers, is a wheel lock not standard equipment on the 260 wheel helm?

#1 Yes, check your local auto parts store.
#2 don't know a thing about the harniss but you are probably not going to get a lot of amps out of your outboard in any case. Your best bet is to get larger batteries and a 110 volt battery charger.
#3 There should be a round knob on the side of the pedestal that screws tight to lock the steering.

Your control cables may adapt with some effort depending on your engine controls. my stock cables required significant pressure and failed after only a year. I called the mfg who said they built a higher grade cable which I replaced them with and they are like silk compared to org junk. My point is that if you need to upgrade the cables to fit your OB make sure you ask for their highest grade cable to fit your specific OB and you'll be much happier.

The wire going from your stern light and up the pedestal is for a compass light. Your outboard(if it has elec start) should have a major cable which is attached directly to the batt(s). Otherwise you'll need the on-line manual for your OB to determine where to tie the leads from your alternator to the battery(s). Typically charging at 7amps it should do almost everything you'd need unless you are running all your lights for numerous nights. that said I recently added a small solar panel and regulator that is left in the cockpit during the week to top off my batts. I use two group 27 deep cycle batts securely mounted behind the port aft bulkhead to offset the OB weight.

If you have an Edson Pedestal like our '04 260 there is a silver dollar sized knob on the starboard side. see pic.

Congrats on your new ride. Be safe and have fun.
Mike

Thanks Mike we appreciate the info.
Sine I posted I have ordered a conversation kit to link my 33000 series cables from the pedestal to the Envinrude. I don’t have that brake knob so I will have to purchase the add on from Edson, also thinking of installing a solar panel, I was looking at the flex unit this morning that you can actually roll up.

My flex panel still needed a small controller to stop it from cooking my batts if I didn't get to the boat for a couple weeks. Have a great season. Glad to help. Mike
