I have an Esdon pedestal and there is a 5 minute install from Edson to add a wheel brake. It's a little pricey and I was wondering if it's worth it or if anyone has added this.

Wheel brake addition

I added one this winter. It was not hard, but it takes more like 15 minutes, and if your hands are big, it's not that easy. The biggest problem is not dropping any of the parts. If you drop anything down your pedestal, you have a problem. So take your time, be careful and make sure you have a good hold of everything you stick down that hole.

If you need it

We bought our 82 H27 Labor Day 2000. Since then I used the brake one time. HOWEVER, if you single-hand sail it might be a good investment. An autohelm might do the job sometime. The simple question is probably, need it? Andy s/v Baroque

Good in an anchorage too.

Lyn: We use our brake when we are in an anchorage too. This keeps the rudder from moving if there is any surge or tide.

wheel brake.

I have a wheel break on my 1977 27 and find it invaluable at anchor or on a mooring which is where i keep my boat. Without it the rudder tends to bang hard over to hard over as the boats spins on the mooring. It also tends to keep the boat pointed winward at anchor. also, its my auto pilot when Im short handed or need to run up front for a moment.! Good investment, and time well spent! good luck!
