Just bought a new to me boat, 26ft. nash, it has pedistal steering. My question is the rudder seems to turn much further to one side than the other, the steering is a single rod ou of the transom to the rudder, is there an adjustment to correct this? I do not know the name of the wheel manufacturer. If anyone has any suggestions please respond. Dirk

Steering Arm

Its a bit hard to speculate the cause, but because the rudder arm is offset from the pintle center line, the steering arm doesn't swing symmetrically and may make contact on one side of the transom cutout sooner than the other. Its probably no big deal but if its a bother, a stop can be fitted within the interior of the transom to limit the swing to match the narrower angle. The system on my boat was an Edson and used a single push/pull cable. The system was horrible. Edson reengineered to a pull/pull two cable system but wanted half the price of a new system to convert... so I designed and constructed an open wire system which is far superior to the flexible cables. I now have no drag, no play and a steering ratio that provides easy turning of the wheel and precise helming. The link will provide a picture of the inside of my transom to illustrate how you might provide a stop to equalize the turning angles.
