My yacht club has given me a PHRF rating of 197 which I am appealing. I am looking for support from other 306's to show a higher rating but have not been able to find any on other PHRF orgizanations that have rated this model. If you have a rating what is it?

Do you have a copy of the PHRF certificate that you can post with the various adjustments that are available? Because each PHRF committee is pretty much autonomous, it's hard to equate one area with another. Some vary widely in their requirements and ratings.

PHRFs...

As Alan notes, PHRFs are established by local committees usually based on how your boat is equipped. I would say, however, that the range of PHRFs for a number of 30-ft Hunter models seems to be in the 171-188 range. If you have a 197, perhaps you should give it a try first to see if you can sail to your numbers -- or perhaps remain quiet and happy with what appears to be a great PHRF....

PHRF Ratings

Presumably if you are apealing a rating you have some valid reeason for doing so. How do you know the 197 isn't accurate , or in fact a total gift? Aren't there other similar Hunters listed in the local rating list? Here's some ratings from similar boats on the Chesapeake Bay- Sorry it's all I could come up with and I know they are reasonable because I have a race rigged Hunter 28.5 with a folding prop and 155% Genoa and she sails to that 174 rating. Hunter 31 Shoal Draft, folding prop and 154% Genoa = 183 Hunter 30-2 Wing Keel, Roller furling below deck, 155% Genoa = 189 Hunter 30 shoad draft, folding prop, roller furling above deck, 135% Genoa = 219 Hunter 28.5 deep keel, folding prop, 155% Genoa = 174 You can make direct application to PHRF of Lake Erie on-line. You could go to PHRF of the Chesapeake and click on the current rating list and do a comparison of hundreds of boats, though the ratings wil probably differ in Lake Erie; they won't generally be lower. Why not set her up for racing, take off any extra gear; put on a folding or feathering prop and the biggest headsail she'll carry and kick the *@# out of the other boats with that 197 rating!
