Tabago Cays

The Tabago Cays in St Vincent and The Grenadines are amazingly beautiful. But next March it's off to the BVI's. I hear they are hard to beat.

Port Ludlow, WA

The inner harbor is the most peaceful, secluded spot you could ever imagine. It could only be better if the multi million dollar homes weren't overlooking the harbor. LaDonna

Inter Harbor Port Ludlow

We first started going there in 89. The State of Wash. had a chance to buy the place for 1 million dollars but didn't do it. One time we were there a doe and fawn swam across to one of the small islands it was great. The last time we were there was in 92. Someone woke us up at 7am to the sound of a nail gun.

What is a "Favorite Anchorage" thread without photos to substantiate the lyrical descriptions? Alas, this forum does not appear to support photo submissions. So, I sailed all the way to the HOW photo-forum to submit a (low resolution) picture plus description of Sakao anchorage: http://www.sailboatowners.com/upload/display.tpl?folder=Meuzelaar73118941545

Angel Island

Ayala Cove at Angel Island in the San Francisco Bay midweek in Sept/Oct has to be one of the most beautiful spots around. At dusk, on one side of your boat you have the cove with deer grazing in the meadow and on the other side you have pelicans grazing the surface of Racoon Strait with the lights of Tiburon and Sausalito in the background. Weekends can be a madhouse, but weekdays are perfect.

Bob, you forgot to mention the whales!

It is a great anchorage. Bob forgot to mention the occasional whale that finds their way into the bay. In case everyone forgets, Humphery ended up try to come into our harbor at Hidden Harbor. He could not pony up the $4/ft so the harbor master would not let him in.<g>

Landlocked Bay is nice, but Taz is better

Well Mark, Landlocked Bay is very nice, and all that you say about it is true, but for me, you just can't beat Taz Basin. Taz (or Hole in the Wall to some) is in Granite Island just off the Gulf of Alaska in Harris Bay. It's like someone took a quarter mile in diameter hole saw and bored down through a couple hundred feet of granite with just a 30 foot wide opening to the ocean. It's a bomb proof hole with incredible wildlife and beauty. Spooky as all hell getting in, but a real nice anchorage with lots of hiking, climbing, and warm rock to lay around on. Make's be peaceful just thinking about it.

A little bit of Heaven

Davis Park, Fire Island, NY. Great place to spend the summer. Volleyball, partying, fishing, water sports giant bubble contest and more. I guess you could relax if you wanted....I wouldn’t know.

Pirate Haven

From my view the best place ia a new place (After about three tries at it).The first trip is full of concern, responsibility, safety, taking care of all the gotta do things. Once you have been there the SCARY stuff is gone and the enjoyment is more,,but then after awhile..a few years its on to something new. After backpacking Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. moving up to Acadia national park in Maine..then thru parts of Blue Ridge, Lake Tahoe, Mt Lassen on and on and on to boredom,,,Doing it is the key to a good spot. Half adventute,,half confidence from previous trips..I find all the water great...and as long as you keep looking,,it will always be great,,now I am in love with Pensacola Fla. However in a few more years I will have to go elsewhere to keep the flame alive..( And with all do respect..You always talk about the best place after your gone on to others. The old hindsight thing) Heading to St.Andrews below Destin Fla, Tomorrow.. Let's keep it a secret okay...it's not crowded yet.......Ha!!

Nigel of the Chesapeake, Please Contact Me

Nigel: Please contact me relative to your response on Turner's Creek. We are planning the C-22 cruise for next summer in the northern Chesapeake Bay for about 20 boats, and this is one of the anchorages that we plan on sailing the boats to, on our way to Havre de Grace. I would like some info that would help the bigger boats that sail with us. Most of them are around 30 feet. Please e-mail me at aadjcamacci@panetwork.com . Thanks, Aldo

Towling Bay, Pittwater, N.S.W., Australia

Beauiful spot with protection from all winds except Easterlies (which doesn't happen too often, prevailing winds are West, South and N/E) Surrounded by National Park except for a small strip of homes on the southern shore line who can only access their homes by water. The location is great, with lots of bird life who cotinually sing their different songs.

Hunter 420 Passage San Diego
Anagada, BVI

We chartered a Sunsail Beneteau 44 a few years ago and spent 7 days in the BVI. While The Baths, Sandy Cay and The Bight were all beautiful, nothing took the place of the exciting sail from Virgin Gorda to Anagada with the resulting overnight anchored in a peaceful, quiet cove, bimini back, sipping some cool rum, smoking my pipe, sharing our thoughts and dreams with dear friends, and gazing in awe at the millions of stars. A tough life, but somebody had to do it!

IT'S A TIE

I've got two: The first (and one I've not visited in a few years), is Christmas Cove near Boothbay Harbor, Maine. Spend a couple days there a few years back and couldn't believe the beauty of this well protected little harbor. Had a small yacht club (building built in the 1700's as I recall) and even smaller general store with wonderful homemade apple pie and set-your-own candlepin bowling alleys (if you have to ask, you ain't from Maine!). Second is the eastern branch of the Corrottoman River off the Rappahanock River of the Chesapeake Bay. Wonderful place to drop the hook and relax with good friends and my favorite adult beverage.
