Windlass

Ariel, Thanks for the photos, the layout looks the same as on my 33-2. I will have to take some measurments. What make an model windlass do you have.I may go the manuel route as it is a lot easier to install and I do not need a whole lot of pulling power.I like how yours is low and compact.

Windlass

Forrest, The windlass is a Lewmar, model "Anchorman" with gypsy only. The standard gypsy that comes on the windlass is for 5/16 BBB or G4 chain and 9/16 or 5/8 inch 3 strand line. Gypsy's for other combinations are avaliable but are expensive. The Lewmar web site will give you the gypsy sizes. I got the manual windlass for the same reasons as you said. It is more than adequate for the 35lb. CQR with 20ft. of chain. That is a totat of about 57 lb. that I am lifting in the extreme. I got a "Winch Buddy" last year when I turned 68 (thought that I was getting old enough to deserve some help) but it is a bit to strong for the windlass. I still crank it up with the winch handle after we break the anchor out with the engine. The only problem I have found is that the chain-to-rope splice can slip in the gypsy. Knowing this its no problem to help the rode around the windlass when the splice comes up. The best price I found for the windlass was at Defender. Good luck, Dave Nance
