Let's have a little fun. I took this picture while sailing a couple days ago. Take a look at the picture and tell me what's wrong. The Speed instrument may give a little hint. The over exposure is NOT the correct answer! Jack Friendship C350, #80

out of focus

Well, for one it is out of focus. Is this a trick question?

Focus

The correct answer is not related to my inability to operate the camera. Jack Friendship C350, #80

wind angle

The boom is out to the starboard side with the wind coming in from the same direction, can't work. Not sure how you managed that Jack, a trick boat maybe.

Shoaling up

As you wrestle with the apparent wind apparently coming from the wrong direction, you're about to run aground.

Tack

Wayne is correct...you are on a port tack, boat is heeled to starboard...those two items agree, but your wind instrument says the wind is coming from the starboard side, which does not agree. I think the latter is inop.

System integration

Your depth, wind speed, angle of heel, apparent wind direction, knots and remaining beers are all 13.9?

knot to worry

By the look of those numbers, your wind instrument and depth gauge are having a love affair! Knotty, Knotty )

Ok, here's the answer!

Wayne and Bert are correct! The wind instrument was damaged by lightning a week ago. The speed also. In fact, I lost several instruments. Jack Friendship C350, #80

Have you tried to re-calibrate you wind instrument? I just re-calibrated mine yesterday, Instructions are in the book. Your fellow sailors will thing you are drunk driving arround in circles but that is the start of resetting the wind direction needle.

Wind Calibration

Yes, I tried to recalibrate it. It won't "hold" a calibration. A Raymarine service person is coming to look over all of the instruments. So far, it appears I have damage to: Wind, GPS, Multi, Depth. That lightning is strong stuff. The boat that took the direct hit is about 6-7 slips away from me. About 6 or so boats near him also received damage, similar to mine. The direct hit boat lost all electronics. Approx $15,000 damage. And to top if off, he chose this year to not have boat insurance. Bad timing all around. Jack Friendship C350, #80
