We are restoring our C27 #283 ..... wondering what is under the (starboard) dinette sole. It's all glassed-in and no hatch or opening in front or top. Seems to be wasted space and we are thinking about using it by adding access hatch. ANybody know what these original 27s had unden the floor pan below dinette? Thanks, Skip

i had the same question. there is nothing under the dinette. i cut open a wide space, built a shallow but deep box that will accommodate a large chart-pack, built a hinged teak 'door' and slid the whole contraption in. it's a great place to keep anything that's flat.

Water tank

Thanks, Joe. While I have you here, where is the water tank? Previous owner somewhere in history removed it (they were racers) and we wonder where it used to be. We are refitting for long-term cruising. Skip

water tank location

on the dinnette model, with midships galley, the 15 gallon water tank is under the galley cabinet. The vented fill cap is accessed through a lift out panel in the small adjacent settee. The exit line is on the opposite side and accessed through the cabinet hatch beneath the sink. In case you're interested, on my C27 dinnete, the holding tank is beneath the forward dinnette settee while the battery boxes are beneath the aft dinnette settee. There's nothing under the dinnette sole, I have seen folks build cabinets in this area. Suggestion. Consider converting the starboard pilot berth, behind the dinnette, into a lazarette that can be accessed from the cockpit. Making it more useful for sail and ground tackle storage.

port tank

on my 74 dinette/aft galley, the water tank was located under the port settee. if your PO removed the tank, you should be able to find the deck fill somewhere. use it for guidance.
