The method to hang the table from the bulkhead with legs underneath doesn't work on my boat - 27 Cat. I'm thinking of purchasing a pedestal to hold the table up, however before I start drilling holes through the area the pedestal will sit on, what is underneath there? On my dinette model with galley towards the port bulkhead, across from the dinette, the area underneath the table is a raised platform that appears to be totally enclosed. Is the area filled with foam, or just enclosed "dead" area, or what? Will it be safe to put a pedastal on this platform?

Air

On my 1982 27' there is nothing but air, There is a plywood backer on the floor of the dinette space. I cut the front out and installed a drawer down there. My table is hung off the side of the boat with a bracket and has a folding leg.

"off the hinges" - dishes on the deck

Thanks for the reply David. I am the fourth owner of my boat so I'm never sure what was original installation and what was added. My table sits in some latches on the bulkhead, at the side, but the legs (of which there are two) allow the table to wobble terrifically. The latches aren't lockable so if you lean on one of the corners of the table, the whole thing can come of the "hinges" so to speak.

locking bolt.

My dinette table has only one folding leg and the brackets against liner often failed to hold it steady if you leaned on one of the corners. I installed a small sliding cabinet bolt about an inch inside the table's back edge, on the bottom side, to keep it from lifting up. I also installed another near the front underneath the seat side edge that allowed me to lock the table in the down position, because it whould sometimes slide out when heeled over on starboard tack. I considered an expesdive, adjustable pedestal but since there was a sliding drawer to be modified in order to install it, I chose the $5.00 hardware solution.
