Bingo... That's what we heard at the little store on Swan's Island. I missed it. ''Porchin' season'' is coming a few weeks.
Ayuh (never 'Ayup').

Which by the way; 'Ayuh' is heard through your nose - as you're inhaling, through your mouth.

Usually it's done 3 times fast. "Ayuh-ayuh-ayuh", as you take a breath.

This is all according to a good friend who is a native Mainer (not Southern Maine, which is not considered Maine by natives in this area).

Look, if you're going to hang out here in Maine it's not "Whats Troubling You", it's "What's Aling You"

Growing up in a S Florida beach town, I ended up with a weird mix of Surfer, NY the Midwest, and the South in my speech.

"Aloha dude, how y'all doin?"
"Y'all fuhgeddaboudit"
"Y'all wanna grab a brewski"

To this day I still tend to answer phone calls from friends and family with Aloha instead of Hello.

Makes it real hard for people to figure out where I'm from.

“Hey Ang”
“Hey Barn”

40 years ago you had to be southern country or a viewer of the Andy Griffith show to hear that. Today even New Yorkers greet one another with a crisp, “Hey!” Language lives and evolves.

“Thank you”
“No Problem”
Some language should go extinct.

Think how proud I was when my kid graduated from a fine mid western Big 10 school, came home to NJ and informed me she was "all edjoomakated". BTW, I was up in Vinalhaven this past spring and found it could be a perfect place to go to relax. Wish I could be there to do some "Porchin".

No, my understanding is "y'all" is singular and "ah y'all" is plural.
No, "y'all" is always plural, a contraction of "you all". My particular pet peeve is watching a movie or TV show, and an actor adresses a single person (in his fake southern accent) as "y'all". "All ah y'all" means "all of you".
