What’s this hole in the shelf for?

If it were a Beneteau, I'd say it's a Wine bottle rack.

No idea what it was intended for, but I would put a plastic cup in it to hold the galley sink sponge and scrub brush.

I would think tall activated carbon water filter. Might have been a factory option so easier to put the hole in every boat than try to do it after the fact for the few who went for the option.
It's gotta be this - anyone have an under the sink water filter system installed in this space? I am working on that exact project for my (new to me) H460, and would love to know what fits there nicely.

Seems to me that a faucet filter on the galley sink would cost less and be easier to replace as needed.

I ordered this “flatware cylinder” a la @Peggie Hall HeadMistress and @Dalliance . I’m not sure if I like it well enough to leave it there yet but figured I’d give it a go. Thanks for all the ideas!

Depending on how that works out for you, if you want to try something different I'd be willing to 3D print something custom for you? Recently got a printer, and it's a case of "with my new hammer, every solution is a nail". Always on the lookout for something interesting/fun to print to solve a problem I didn't know I have! :p

Looks like the perfect place to keep your rolling pin so that it does not roll all around making noise.

Is there any chance that the published boat literature might show it as a feature?
I tried looking through the available literature, but they opted to feature a carefree couple enjoying pillows and wine instead of the galley sink features. ;)

Thanks! I'll let you know if inspiration strikes.

If you wanted to follow Peggie's idea and use it for wet kitchen scraps, an 'emisis' bag would probably fit there perfectly. Disposable, plastic bag sold in packs of 50 on Amazon for less than $16.00. Could also help keep boat clean if any guests have trouble with sea sickness.
