I wish to bond 2" Velcro to fiberglass and also to the vinyl-like foam back rests so that the backrest can be easily removed between sails and not exposed to UV anymore than necessary. I've tried epoxy, 5200, 4200, and Life Caulk to little avail. It always rips off either immediately or within a few months. Help!

Use small amounts. It has a tendency to expand. The stuff should only be used where you don't want to remove it any time soon. Jim

How about this?
I've used "Shoe Goo" to repair rubber boots and tenis shoes. It sticks to any thing, but most inportantly, is flexible. It only costs a few bucks, too!

Mike - Shoe Goo was one of the first I tried. I LOVE the stuff, but it didn't quite work. It didn't stick as well to the fabric as it did the boat. It was a bear getting it off the fiberglass. Still, Shoe Goo is the most awesome stuff... Jentine - Gorilla Glue? I know they make a woodworker's glue. Is there another version for plastics? Rick - contact cement? Interesting idea... Velcro Discs
Rich: I think you should consider the velcro discs like they use to hold the interior cushions in place. You just need one small screw in the center (on the fiberglass). The you only need to figure out how to make it stick to the cushion. To have also not had much luck with the contact/velcro glue. Maybe with some extra prep it will stick better. It is just a matter of which product and how to prep it.

Clean both surfaces first then apply to both surfaces, let dry and attach velcro bits.

Marine GOOP
I used Marine GOOP (buy it at Ace type hardware store - MUCH cheaper than West Marine) and it's working fine. Just apply it both surfaces, wait for skim over then press together.
