Catalinas Evolved
Catalina is well known for evolving their designs over the production run, even within a production year, with an occasional major evolution that can be called a new "Mark". In the C-30, the original design ran from the initial boats with minor variations from one year to the next until mid 1986 when the t-cockpit "Mark 2" was introduced. This evolved slightly over the years (with several of the minor evolutionary changes co-existing within the same model year) till about 1993 when the wider stern with the walk-through transom was introduced as the "Mark 3". The Mark 3 was produced until production essentially stopped when the 310 was introduced. From this, you can guess that it's almost impossible to tell from the production year what the differences were. You will just have to look at the two boats and note the plusses and the minuses for both, make your choice, and pay your money. There is no "better" oe "worse" year for Catalinas, and it is almost impossible (with the exception of the three "Mark" designs) to tell the boats apart by year.Steve
