Must read

Start with the first Patrick O'brien novel of the Aubrey/Maturin series. I think it is called Master & Commander (they are numbered) If you like naval history this is the best. I have read all 17 and am actually re-reading them. O'brien is a master to say the least. None better!

We keep Chapman's on board to take the place of sleeping pills. Also a copy of Don's sail trim guide so I can read over and over the phrase "angle of attack".

Neoclassical classics

For this summer I gathered as much decent British fiction from or about the period of 1770-1820 that I could find. This includes: - Jane Austen's 'Northanger Abbey' - Dudely Pope's 'Rampage' - The third and fourth volumes of 'Horatio Hornblower' (my late father's favourite book series) - Some Napoleonic naval action book by Bernard Cornwell that I forget the name of All this goes with my recent fascination with gothic (1770-1820) romance novels and the 'Sharpe's' video series. I usually have to have a theme, like that. JC 2

True storie

How about the true storie about Moby Dick, the storie about the whaleship ESSEX!!! I forget the name and author, but a great read. The author was from my home sailing lake, Moraine State Park Pa. What an adventure!!!!

The author is Nathaniel Philbrick and he lives on Nantucket now. A great read. Roger Cape Cod
