What's next to be aware of ?

I've heard about Orca's biting rudders, seems like a habit that should have been broken by now in those seas (Spain/Portugal?) Perhaps a smart scientist might hook up a sonic device to repel sensitive hearing whales to move away before some not-so-scientific fool throws an m80 in the water.

A friend of mine tells the story about the time porpoises were playing with his anchor line. Dragging it back and forth enough to move the boat around. If that ever happens to me, I will be sure to get a video.

I've been following these Iberian Orca interactions for a couple years now. I find it amazing how bad the reporting is on these, like all these articles are given to the youngest, least experienced reporter to write up. There are threads all over the sailing world with a wide range of opinions. Looks like the powers that be have finally decided to try to do something positive. There are now numerous sources of information, if sailing in the area of Portugal/Spain/Straights of Gibraltar, where they are tracking the locations of the small group that is most active in this behavior so that they can be avoided. Seems like the better solution at this point is to simply be aware of where they are being active and avoid that area.

It could get dicey if you piss them off, but I would be thinking of carrying some M80s onboard.

An orca was following a power boater very closely in the Sea of Cortez just outside of Bahia Algodones yesterday. It seems the learned behavior might be spreading...
