What's in your first aid kit?

My wife was a registered nurse. Our first aid kit was bigger than our tool kit. She carried everything in her "little black bag", that she thought she needed. We were in Emerald Bay, Catalina when one of the kids on another boat cut his leg. She sutured it up and they got him to Avalon hospital ASAP. Doctor later contacted my wife with a job well done. You don't need anything this elaborate but carry a good kit including the standards plus 4x4 pads, medical tape, tourniquet, disinfectant, etc. Talk to your local EMT and get advice on what you should have. Also if you have room and operating table and a cat scan machine.

Didn't have novacaine and the little guy was a trooper. Doctor later contacted my wife with a job well done. Also if you have room and operating table and a cat scan machine.

One thing that isn't often thought of is a cath kit if you are going to be more than a couple days away from help. I ruptured a disk while traveling on business and, even though there was no direct neurological involvement, the muscle spasms caused by the pain shut down my bilge pumping system and it took three days in the hospital to get it going on its own again. Evidently this is not uncommon. I asked a doctor what would have happened in a remote area and he said, very simple, I would have been dead.
Seriously! Do you think you could do that to yourself? I think I would be dead with or without ...
Maybe some Tylenol3 would be a good idea.
