what's a good analogy for reefing?

It took me a while to get that one about the double lobotomy. Either, I need one, or yours didn't work. I'm worried about woodster because he seems to understand you. :confused:

Put the sail up to downshift and down to upshift. Perfect analogy(?) Sorta like sitting in the stands, parking in the driveway and driving on the parkway.
No, I was not referring to reefing, but rather sail draft. Deeper draft is like shifting to a lower gear, because you are running out of horsepower/wind so you downshift.
