I am interested in a used Catalina 27 or 28 but want one with the open stern/boarding platform. When did Catalina begin doing this? I've noticed that the looks like the 1988 27 brochure shows a closed stern but the 1995 270 brochure, (http://www.catalina27.org/c27brchr.htm) has what I'm lookin for.

The 270 replaced the 27 in late 93-94,
My C270 is a '94 model year built in late '93 hull number 96. So all C270's have swim platform you describe. In the early models only the C270 LE also had water heater & stern pulpit seats, not sure if all new models have them or if there is still LE model and regular.

I have a '94 C 28
It has an open stern. I'm not certain, but that may have been the first year for the open stern on C28'.
