What would Mr. Clean do?

This boating stuff takes way to much time... I need to speed things up after my second season. I need to spend time around the house!

I have a 25 year old fiberglass boat in pretty good shape. About ready to put it away for the winter... but wanted to get some of the grime off first.

The only place I have an issue is with the fiberglass on the deck, topsides are original and fine. Pressure washed the painted non-skid (looks great)... however I have these grayish streaks running vertically on the limited amount of glass. Collinite wax won't touch it.

I have been using 3M fiberglass restorer with wax by hand (areas are fairly small). It is a pain in the butt... but it gets the job done.

Is there something I can wipe on and off with relative ease that won't hurt the fiberglass... like Roll-Off???????? I will finish with a coat of Collinite after and in the spring.

Roll Off is one of my favorites and as long as you don't care about removing wax too, It requires very minimal effort. Just be careful of any painted surfaces. Collinite makes a cleaner that is also excellent but requires more effort. The general rule is to use the least aggressive cleaner first for obvious reasons and these are both very aggressive, however, with some regular common sense, either works.

Do you know what kind of stain it is?? Are they under the ports??? You could try MaryKate On & Off Gel... It works on a pretty wide variety of stains... but without knowing what the stain cause is, YMMV.

One of my favorites is StarBrite Black Streak Remover.. It's quick and works very, very well.. I tried the WM version for about $2.00 less and it did not work as well. I had assumed StarBrite made it for them but I guess I was wrong..

Oh and for those of you with an aluminum toe rail it removes aluminum oxide staining too..

Thanks all for your input... the stains are just from what accumulated on the non-skid from being out on the mooring all summer... and decided to roll on by past the port-lights with the usual acid rain.

I would like to leave as much wax on as possible... so I might opt out of the Roll-Off.

I like the Collonite wax... even though its a job to put on. Think I'll try the Collonite pre-cleaner (as it is likely made for the wax) and report back in on ease of application.

You are right... that 3M stuff is a rubbing compound with a little wax thrown in..

I purchased some Collinite 920 as a pre-cleaner for the Collinite 885 paste wax. Much easier to use than that 3M stuff!

Went on very easy... and removed dirt and grim without any effort.

Note to self... remember to use next year.
