I'm sitting here looking the new postings and in the 10:00 PM news on TV comes out the Coast Guard had to rescue a boater and his dog from 10 ft seas of the coast of Clearwater, FL. Now we have had winds in the 15-20 knot range for the past three days. Small craft warnings were posted on Friday in anticipation of building seas. With Hurricane Ida approaching the Gulf these winds are not going to subside for another 3-5 days. Today they were reporting gusts of 30 knots and by tomorrow we should be seeing gusts of 35 knots. The Florida Gulf coastline is rather shallow and high sustained winds can turn these Gulf waters real ugly in short order.

Damn...that is a late in the season Hurricane! I know some people that are probably getting ready to arrive in Florida after going down the ditch in their boat. That is a bad thing it it may catch a few people going south for the winter. Bad Timing!!!!

Galveston Coast Guard had a pan, pan message this weekend about an overdue 49' boat on a passage from Galveston to Ft. Meyers. Didn't identify power or sail, but they left Galveston on the 31st and they were two days overdue.

Unfortunately, stupid boaters aren't confined to any one body of water. Had a rescue of several up here off of Cape Ann and there was one who died in the Chesapeake recently.

Out of curiosity, what type of boat was he in? Not that it matters; going out in those conditions and putting yourself & pet at risk for what appears to be a pleasure trip shows a lack of situational awareness.
