I have a 8hp 83 Johnson OB that I am rebuilding the tiller handle/ throttle control. It came apart on me when I was trying to load my boat on the trailer....Ahh.
Some of the guts parts went overboard and some stayed on board. I got new parts to replace the guts and am ready to put them in. But I don't know what type of lubrication I should use in the twist grip. What was in there (grease?) was old and hard.
Can I just use some white grease or Vaseline or bearing or KY or....?

Lubriplate 1200-2 or 1242 would be my choices. 1242 heavier and better for open gears. JMHO

Thanks. But I want to know what to lube the twist grip with. The parts are some type of plastic.

I picked up some "Krazy Grease" from Princess Auto. Waterproof (as required by service manual), thick enough to stick around in a nice thick layer, very slick, and hasn't melted the plastic tiller gear on my Honda. And it's great on toast.
It's available in a tub and a grease gun tube (which I used for my bearing buddies). You have a PA in London? The one in Sarnia is small but chock-full of stock. I understand Kitchener's is bigger.

Thanks Joe. We have a big Princess Auto here in London. It must be my favorite store.

Waterproof wheel bearing grease, same as in your trailer hubs. WB'rs suggestion of lubriplate is a good choice as well.
