What type of line is this?

Anyone know what type line the black flecked line is?
The green fleck is Samson XLS Yacht Braid.
The difference I see is that the black fleck is braided using a 2 strand line instead of 3 strand and the braid is much tighter/smaller than that on the green fleck line.

Interesting question. I did not know that the flecking pattern was specific to any individual brand of line. I'll follow this thread and learn as I read. Thanks.

The Marlowbraid is close but does not match but that did lead me to the Marlow Doublebraid with 24 plait cover that looks very close except for the fleck pattern. I don't care about the pattern, just looking for the same type of line.

right side looks like Samson xls yachtbraid. The red/green tracer line lead me to their mfr site......the other I haven't seen.

no need for am exact replacement, get a suitable size/type from reputable manufacturer and you will be fine. Each site will have recommended lines based on application.

speaking of which, is anyone aware of any CURRENT sales going on?

Once in a while one of the companies will bring the machine to the boat shows. I've seen them in Annapolis. I think they were making custom-colored lines for people? Yeah, it's pretty neat.

I have the exact same line on my 2004 Hunter roller furling. Maybe you can contact Marlow Hunter and ask what brand they were using in 2004. They are always very helpful.

In 2005 the in mast roller fuller line was 10mm. I had to replace the line on my 2005 H44 recently and initially thought that the 3/8 line felt a little thinner as compared to the 10MM so I tried the 7/16 which was a little thicker at 11mm and would not run through the blocks after splicing. I contacted Selden and they recommended to use the 3/8 line which is 9.5 mm and specifically Sampson Yacht Braid. The 3/8 line seems to work just fine.

The line on the left came off my Furlex 100S.
I just spoke to a Furlex dealer who said you can't get what they originally used and now they just recommend Samson Yacht Braid as Marc said.

Ward, I bought some Samson LS Yacht Braid from the chandlery here, only 3/16" to use as my hank-on jib downhaul. It seems a looser braid than NER Sta-set. I think that would only be an issue if it were to snag, or maybe if it were subject to more abrasion than average. For my needs, it's fine - it was the cheapest I could find until I looked at Cajun Ropes prices AFTER I had ordered. And cheap polyester double braid was all I needed.

I generally buy rope for the purpose. High tech cores for low stretch halyards, blended dyneema for sheets that are comfy on hands, and general polyester double braids for general purpose stuff. I am very loyal to NER Salsa for sheets, because it runs through purchases well, is soft, feel nice on hands, and doesn't compress in cam cleats. But it IS ugly. Otherwise, I'm not super wedded any one brand or the other...
