My question is what towing trucks people use to tow their 22/222/23 O'Day? My (wife's) 3.0 ltr. 4Runner is good on the flat but is working on the incline. Believe it or not we have some Mountains in Arizona, I have to cross them to go ANYWHERE but Mexico and the Sea of Cortez, which we're not ready for YET. One liners will do if you don't have time to elaborate. Thanks Rudy

Chevy 20

Or for that matter any middle weight (3/4 ton) should be able to do it easy. My 20 series 'sport' (read short vs. full size or extended) has the big v6 with fuel injection and is a 1990, and doesn't even bat an eye except when pulling it out of the water. It's not so much the engine, but the rest of the vehicle you have to deal with. The transmission is going to be a heavy duty in a 3/4, as well the axel, brakes, etc. A lot of people buy a 1500, 150, 10 or whatever serious from whatever make and wonder why after a few years of pulling a boat the tranny or rearend goes out. It's because it's a 'light duty' truck. With a medium or heavy duty truck, your tranny will probably be geared lower as well, so don't expect to be able to speed much. Mine cruises at about sixty, and I don't think I'd ever be able to get it to go faster then 80. Few things to consider too, definately get a tranny cooler, the bigger the better. Get the size that it says is for a motorhome. Possibly a bigger radiator for your engine too. The reason that the tranny or engine will go is because it overheats and cooks itself. Anything else is pretty much your choice. Look at 3/4 ton or even 1 tons if you really want something beefy. Josh

Toyota Tacoma 4x4

Our Toyota Tacoma 6 cyl. 4x4 manual transmission does a great job hauling the boat. Plenty of power. We don't have mountains in Minnesota, but the truck did fine on hills.

GMC 1500 with heavy duty towing package

I agree with Josh. A straight up 1/2 ton is inadequate for serious towing. My GMC 1500 has a big V8 (one step up from the basic V8 displacement varies from year to year) heavy duty suspension and a factory towing package. Smaller trucks can do OK for a few miles or for local in and out use but if you intend to do some long hauls get a truck that is equipped for the job. John
