What to look for - questions to ask - purchasing a Hunter 27

Hello,

I am currently looking at a few sailboats to purchase and one of them is a hunter 27 (from the early 90's).

The boat has been sitting on dry dock for a few years - and I'm looking for some advice on what to look out for, and questions to ask the owner when going out there to see the boat.

Thank in advance!

Hello, my first piece of advice is to hire a certified marine surveyor to go over any boat you intend to buy. If you're just a lookyloo does the boat have the things you want. Make a list of those things and check each one to see whether they work. If you're not sure, bring an experienced friend to check over these things. The most fundamental things, does it float, sail, turn, move backwards and forwards with the propulsion engine, etc. Beyond these, things begin to get technical; thus a surveyor.

If this is the boat you want, plunk down a few earnest dollars so the owner has some sense of interest and who will go to the trouble of putting it in the water. The owner will tell you what you want to hear, but it is up to you to determine whether the boat does what you expect.

Re: H27

Thanks Terry, you gave me a good idea regarding putting it in the water - it would definitly be worth doing so.
