I am cosidiering a Hunter 260. If you already have a hunter 260, and you had to replace it, with another 260, would you purchse new or used and why?

We own a 95 H26 that the 260 is a carbon copy of.

Hunter 26 foot sailboats are great fun, fast and almost big enough for live aboards. We flatout love our boat! We spend at least 3 days a week on ours during the summer and most often more days living aboard. The 260 has nicer lines, a better water system and very small changes in cabin storage. Many have marine heads rather than porta-potties and that is a manditory requirement in my opinion. The later 260 have wheel steering. I prefer the tiller for the feel of what the boat wants and because it offers a much easier cockpit to work in if single handing. The 260's that are called 270's have inboard diesel power. The outboard equiped 260's have less maintanance and lack the diesel fuel smell. Do you want a trailerable sailboat? If no...then proceed. Now that I have walked totally around your first question I'll spill my guts. If you want a 26 foot Hunter buy a H26. Spend the money you save spend for spinnakers, marine heads, solid vangs, electronics and other go-fast goods. Learn, practice and sail the boat wisely and hard...or..step into the 30 foot class two years earlier. Ray S/V Speedy

Thanks Ray

Thanks for your reply Ray I really appreciate the information. My hubby and I are looking at the water ballast trailerable Hunter260 because the water is shallow in our area. There are some beautiful beaches in our area that are only reachable if you have a short keel. We have decided to purchase the 260 and are very excited about experiencing the same enjoyment you are enjoying with your Hunter. We both are new to sailing so are looking forward to the adventure of sailing. Thanks again Ray, Carol
