What to do with my tiller when I'm docked at the slip?

The final countdown has begun.
I'm hoping next week to drop her in the water and over to my first slip, (marina opens May 5th).
I keep thinking everything is done, but some how something else seems to pop up, but the projects seem to be smaller and smaller!
I went to a J-20 racing class yesterday at the sailing club I'm hoping to join, to find out some of the what's and if's of racing.
Seems exciting, when I get up to the marina I'm gonna have to find a boat to crew on!
I heard one fellow say how he was rebuilding his tiller shaft and installing a set of bushings to get rid of the slop.
Another piped in "That's from the waves beating your tiller back and forth at the dock, you gotta tie it tight".
Another chimed in, "No "Cap'an Blye", you gotta BUNGEE cord it in place so it has a bit of give-n-take".
Hmmm, I got to thinking....
"What do I do with my tiller when I'm docked at the slip?
Tie it secure, bungee so it can move, let it free to go where ever?

You know your getting "refined' (not old), when you sweat the small stuff!

I tie mine off so it doesn't move as do most of the boats with tillers around me. One of them removes the tiller and lets the rudder move free.

I always tied mine amidship. You don't want it free to swing where it can bang against the cockpit combing.

I think I'll use 2 pretty strong bungie straps to hold it mid ships.
But, most bungees really get beat up by the UV.
I had thought about getting one of those tiller clutches, it's on my "list" of things that might be cool to get. Being a solo sailor its starting to look better and better!
I took a drive down to the marina where she be living all summer, the docks are pretty well protected and my slip is 2 off shore so there should be little in the way of nasty currents and waves to beat it to death.

I just tighten my tiller tamer and it holds it midships. Or if I need the cockpit space I raise it up and tie it to the stern pulpit rail.

Mine fits nicely in my backstay adjuster gear and just hangs out there. I think you definitely need to secure it somehow -- not just currents, but you don't want it knocking around if there is a big storm.

bungee rope cord (elastic rope)(bulk cut to length) nice and long..cleat from one side of the boat around the tiller a few wraps and then to the other side to the cleat...gives her a bit of wiggle but no big movements
