I own a 1982 22. The speed meter on the starbord side of the cockpit was inoperative when we bought it and looks terrible. The connection in the hull was removed and sealed before we bought it. Recently I have seen several compasses in this space and now have compass envy. Can you tell me where to obtain and how do you balance given the front to back slope of that section of the cockpit. Thanks in advance

compass get

Check out compasses made with adjustable pitch for bulkheads of various angles; or ask catalina direct/the foredeck website . They WILL have one that fits.

Here you go

If you don't have the CatalinaDirect C22 handbook then order one. It is a must have. Here is their 3 1/2" compass and 4 1/2". http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=642 http://www.catalinadirect.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=641

Bulkhead Compass

I have an '86 C22 that had a compas mounted high on the port bulkead. It kind of lost the fluid and fell apart. I searched around and found the exact replacement. The problem is that on the old compass, the part of the gimbal frame that came across the front of the compass was clear plastic. On the new compass this part is black plastic. I have not mounted it yet, but I fear that between the angle of the bulkhead and my line of sight to it that I might not be able to see the numbers and hash marks. I may have to make/buy a backing piece to tip the compass where I can see properly. The new compass fits the hole in the bulkead and the screw holes all line up. I real don't want to patch that hole and make anotherone lower down just to see the compass.
