What to do with an old bow pulpit

I just replaced my bow pulpit that was damaged during a freak storm wind shear. Now comes the question what to do with the old pulpit? Do you just toss it out with the garbage?

Can it be recycled in any way or is it of any value?

The metal recyclers pay for SS metal.

No way.....If you are like any respectable sailor, you'll keep it, "just in case"...Be sure to put it in the garage along with all the other sailing stuff you are currently not using, "just in case".....never mind that the garage is full of "just in case" sailing stuff and you have a valuable car out in the drive exposed to the element. This is the lesson I've learned from a fellow sailor that I married. If I'd have known about the "just in case" stuff in the garage before I married him, I might have post phoned the wedding. Instead we have a respectable garage full of "just in case". We've been married 20yrs now.
1st Mate of "Chaos"....who's "just in case" stuff is in the garage !

Never throw out anything for a boat. If you can't use it, someone you know might be able to. Who knows, you might need a 12" section to go between the top and bottom rail of the stern rail to strengthen it up. you might need a few pieces to make the stern ladder longer.
You never know when you might need it. Keep it until you do.

While I have had my boat only 2 years, I have apparently been an undiscovered sailor all my life. I have always had a hard time throwing away anything I might find a use for one day...:clap::clap: -Paul

No storage space is ever enough. I have a 3000 to 4000 sq. foot shop my investor has trusted to me and the stuff I may need just keeps stacking up. My latest strategy is to just condense it down as much as possible. For instance, I would chop the bow pulpit up in to smaller sections and stack it neatly in a box.

Ross has been peeking in my back yard. Actualy behind shed # 2, the "boat sh*t" shed. It's a nearly new Tops In Quality pulpit from an old Columbia 37. I'll use it some day!

I found one once

Took me forever, but eventually I found a pulpit for my Cal 20. From a guy here on SBO, actually. He shipped it up to me from Atlanta, and made a bit of cash he wouldn't otherwise have had. At the Connecticut end: I was the happiest guy in the marina! It was a bit dented and bent (he informed me accurately ahead of time), but definitely workable.

One man's junk is another man's treasure.

Fortunately, we have a place here in North Van called Popeye's Sailor Exchange. You give them all your "just in case" boating Stuff, and sometimes they give you money. At the least they store it for you ;)

The danger is trying to escape the store with less stuff than you brought... :eek:

Nah....... keep it. .... there's always a use for some mangled stainless steel tubing. For instance, you could use in the garden to train your tomato vines
