I couldn't read it all, but I have a question or two. Did you or are you considering buying this boat? Or is it a free b.
Are you a very experienced sailor, mechanic, electrician, etc?

I think it's an inboard. Nothing hangs over the back end that I can see..

I've got to do my callcs again as either my tape measure is short or someone is adding small amounts of diesel fuel every day just to drive me nuts.
Sorry, I meant is the numbers you are getting from a inboard or outboard?

2GM20F, same as yours. That's why I'm looking at the calcs again.

AND installing video cams to see if someone is screwing with me by adding fuel every so often. It's the principle of the matter that's at stake here.

That’s pretty amazing numbers. I wouldn’t have thought I would be getting sub .5 gallon /hour numbers but being forced to motor at 2800 has opened my eyes. How much do you think you motor sail? I do every opportunity I get so probably 20 percent of my Hobbs hours are motor sailing. There is a lot of variables when it comes to this and you have to accept averaging them all out.

Outboard wells were designed for 2 stroke engines with their much smaller powerheads, a 2hp or electric may fit. But do you really need an engine, as a young person I had access to a fleet of small boats with the largest being a Coronado 23. None had engines, and it was more common than having an engine on that size boat. They are technically "Auxiliary" engines.

Are you now suspecting your consumption at 3000-3200 was higher than what you are now seeing at 2800. Be interesting to see how much.

My initial consumption test was no screaming hell as far as accuracy goes. Ran the tank down to a little less than 1/4 full and then dipped it with a dowel I keep around just for roughly checking the fuel gauge.

Tank access.

I then filled up the tank and recorded the fuel added. I then ran the engine during the trip until the dipped level was again back to the original level before filling. Ground a few of these number together and came up with my consumption. Agreed, this will have to be done for several fills for any degree of accuracy.

How much do you think you motor sail?
After being in my backyard for a while, I think you get the picture of how much we do. There is almost no wind here in the summer. Straight power for wherever you're going.
