So, this is a, big, beautiful sailboat in our marina. It's on the hard and has this little, bitty sail hoisted on what appears to be a head sail halyard. What's the point? It can't be more than 1 or 2 square foot. and why is my photo 90 degrees off??
It keeps the forestay from vibrating in the wind. You can also lube the foil grooves by spraying Mclube on the luff tape and pulling it up and down the foil.
Most of us have heard of or even used an anchor riding sail to limit sailing at anchor. Well, the picture shows the proper use of a jackstand riding sail to limit sailing while on the hard! Admittedly, the latter type of sail is much less common.
I think Sue wins. Another thing that it would pull double duty as would be to mark the boat in a crowded harbor. We use three Chinese lantern, yellow, red, blue, hoisted up the topping lift, spaced about 6 feet apart. Works great.
