Brookings is the southern most harbor in oregon.
the farther south you go, the more dependable the bar crossings can be, which, ultimatley is determined by the ocean conditions.
all things being equal, the Brookings/Chetco bar is the safest in oregon, but its not always the bar thats the problem.
the ocean can give the boat and crew a beating and most boats (and crew) that have never experienced big waves will not hold up very long out there....
it would seem that you may either be new to sailing, or not familiar with big water sailing, so until you get some experience in coastal bays during times of good strong winds, it may be prudent to not be planning any bar crossings or ocean sailing until you get familiar with the type of death and destruction they can cause.
