I have a 30 watt solar panel and a Genasun GV-5 MTTP controller that has connections for 12 - 30 gauge wire. From the panel to the battery is less than 15 ft. with a 5 amp fuse at the battery. The wire will run around the hatch when it is on the deck and I will store the panel below when I'm on the boat.
