What size/style boat would you recommend?

Myself and two friends would like to buy a boat in a few years and sail around the carribean for a year or so. We are all male, and right now we're 20 so we will be about 22 when we do this. I have never been on a sailboat for an extended amount of time and was wondering what some of you had to say about boat size. What would be comfortable? We're definitely not looking for luxury, but we don't want to be super cramped either. Thanks so much! - Daniel

Depends on your budget

If you have a nice little trust fund, you could really go all out. If you're a struggling college student, your options are much more limited. You might look into working on charter boats. You could get paid a little (very little) and still get the experience. If you're really set on going with your buddies, look at your budget and then find a boat that fits your needs. It's impossible for anyone to tell you which boat is best for you. Some could easily do it on a 25 footer, others wouldn't even think about a boat under 40'. Good luck

a bit of advice...

A couple weeks ago, we had a discussion about partnerships. The experiences shared will assist you in your direction/decision as you search to obtain a boat. Go to the forum archives on the home page and search in the 2001 posts for the word "partnership". The information will list out. Good Luck. Steve!

size matters

I agree with LaDonna regarding getting experience. On the question of owning

Partnerships

You will hear alot of negatives about partnerships, but I for one have had one for two years and so far so good. My wife and I have one with another friend of ours and we agreed to not gang up and our vote only counts as one. We split everything 50/50. Since this will be a great experience my only advice is: "THE GREATEST RISK IN LIFE IS NOT TAKING ONE" Go for it!!! Bob S/V Never Say Never

And check this . . . .

web-site: http://www.geocities.com/andraecium/(click on Link below). Think you would need something this big(40 ) for four guys. But as you can see from this web-site the fun will outweigh the work. :)
