What size/rating jib block for 7.3?

My still new to me S2 7.3 has jib tracks for racing installed by the PO. I would like to buy snatch blocks and run the jib to the toe rail (isn't this the original configuration?) so I can try a different shapes on a jib I just got.

My question is, apart from making sure the sheets will run through the block, what do I need to know to select the right one? Is there a load calculation I should know?

Snatch blocks are not a good idea for that use. If you read up on them on any website from the folks that make them, they have certain limitations. You'd be better served by getting standard blocks and reeving either second sheets or making the change while underway or just once a sail.

Thanks. Are there load ratings for standard blocks and if so how do I calculate what I need? They can be pricey, so I don't want to buy something heavier than needed.

Did you ever get an answer to this thread? I just got an S27.3and don't know how the jib sheet blocks are configured. The boat is in storage and don't remember seeing blocks on the deck, so I am assuming there should be snatch blocks, but I didn't see then either.

Not a ton of sizes out there from what I found. http://www.ronstan.us/marine5/range.asp?RnID=022B

ronstans smallest at 215 each is overkill, but be sure to get rubber cheeks so the don't damage your boat as you tack and the lines flail about. Look around the boat first, as they are indeed expensive.

Look up Barton marine snatch block on eBay. They had prices 100-150.

People are funny...everyone with a small boat seems to want to increase the strength of their running rigging but it really isn't necessary.
