1978 HUN 25 . I have a long shaft 6 hp now , but it seems like I am a little underpowered . The orig motor has been taken out for storage I guess to lighten up the boat .

I have a Yamaha 9.9 electric start, long shaft high thrust. Love it!

Yes, no more than 8 or 9hp. Above that and you are just burning extra gas. The H27 only has a 8hp diesel.

I was on the Honda website yesterday and they have remote throttle/gear selectors for the BF line of 4-stroke outboards. If you've ever tried to use a traditional outboard on a larger sailboat then you know what a big deal that is...not having to reach down and back to throttle up or go into reverse near the pier.

The throttle lever kit can cost an extra $200 but I think it's money very well spent. The modern 4-strokes also have an alternator in them so you can still charge your batteries.

My 36-year old Yanmar (SB8) has about had it. I am considering the long-shaft 8 or 9hp Honda 4-stroke as a replacement option. I see no need to spend $6-10k on a boat worth only $6k to begin with...plus I could pull my old lump and have great access to my steering gear, install a larger cooler, increase my storage capacity, reduce my boat's weight, eliminate the drag of my prop, etc....
The only downside is that a diesel hardly uses any gas at all...
