Whatever I make, for the shifter, I will post the Photos here. And would be glad to make copies for the other Honda owners!

I'm getting inspired - will probably just be a pipe over the top of the shifter with a few angles making it easier...

What about a remote shifter/throttle lever? you could mount it to the inside of the transom and them not need to reach over the stern. It would be out of the way on the stern.

I saw one if those ten years ago on a 27 footer. it looked like the arm off the motor attached on the port deck, pointing forward, six inches ahead of the transom.

I didn't like the look - but can sure understand the "need" now!

I got the shifter extension mounted but didn't get any photos, yet
works well, I can look forward and shift all I want - just a piece of leftover maple trim from our kitchen cabinets about 8 to 10" tall bolted to the outside of the shifter through the two holes already present in the shifter.
It is the Honda 5....

I have two outboards for my boat. A Mercury 4.5 short shaft, and an Evinrude 4 long, both two stroke. The Merc is damn heavy compared to Evan, but you notice that half HP for sure. The long shaft tends to drag the water, but the weight off the rear is noticeable also. So, for what it's worth, Knowing what I know now, and where I sail (Monterey Bay), I can say without a doubt that....it's a total crap shoot. The 4 will be better for racing as I can easily get it off the mount to store below. The 4.5 for when the wind picks up, and it does. Let local average weather conditions dictate motor selection on your next purchase.
