What size holding tanks have worked for people? Is bigger always better?

15 gallons has worked for me....

...but bigger would be better. It has been fine for me alone for a long week of sailing, and has just about worked for three (teen-aged daughter and wife with me) for a long weekend. If we had room for much bigger, I think 20 or 25 gallons would be great, but on our 27' boat this is all I could fit without considering a custom tank in the forepeak. Interesting question. I'll be curious to see how others answer.

Bigger would always be better :)

I think bigger would always be better- we have a 25 gallon on our 38 and it works for 4-5 days for 2 people if we aren't going ashore at all. I'd love to have 35 gallons, but I also think that you find ways to make it work. I wonder if a secondary soft sided tank might work as a back-up in case you needed it. Head Mistress? Are two tank systems common? Or not worth the effort? Good topic B ps. any holding tank is better than a racing bucket *cry

Two tanks in tandem NOT a good idea...

And a bladder for waste holding isn't recommended either. If you think you need more holding capacity, learn to conserve flush water. Most people use at least twice as much as necessary.

Intake VS outflow

When I quit drinking beer, my holding tank required far fewer pumpouts!
