Still here Keith. Can't wait to see some of the adventures you and Lynn will be enjoying as you embark on your new lifestyle. I am damn envious, I will say that. I haven't posted much as our upstate NY winter has been brutal this year so I have only ventured to the marina a few times. Unfortunately Mrs. 25 and the MS are not able to endure the physical nature of sailing for more than a few hours so while I still get to day sail frequently the longer duration voyages are going to be limited to me and my plucky lads. On the plus side I am able to introduce a lot of people to sailing who might otherwise not get an opportunity to experience it. I have one family ready to spend this year learning the sport after a fun jaunt last year. Perhaps I can add some more folks to our ranks. Now there is an idea, how about a forum for the novice where they can ask their questions and share their experiences all in one place for easy reference. How 'bout it Phil?

hello all

what sail boating will do to you ?... that is a very good question.... I would have to say I am addicted to sailing... ever since my sons and I learned in the scouting program, I have been consumed with sailing... it has always been on my mind, and now I am on my 2nd sailboat...

I am looking for the day I can buy a boat around 40ft to live on and spend my days sailing all over with my wife to be... there are many many places we have chosen to sail to... she wants to sail to her home country (china)... my wife is Chinese.. we have a big adventure planned for when I retire.... sail USA to China...

We will be sailing the coast of Maine as usual. We are sailing from home port in South Portland Maine to Bar Harbor for the 4th of July this year!

I have not been very active this off season. My supplemental income has dried up and my wife's hours have been cut, so we're not totally sure we'll even splash this year. But the boat is now in very good shape after five years of dealing with a lot of deferred maintenance issues, another reason I haven't been active here because my projects are mostly completed.
Obviously, we are hopeful about finding slip money, but when it comes to competing with sending a boy to scout camp and deCycles and paying for our girl's club swimming, there just isn't much left over for the yachting life or vacations. But I'm glad a friend and I bought a Sunfish last year, so there will be sailing, just of a wetter and more thrilling kind.

Laying low over winter trying to break the winter sicknesses that seemed to have plagued us this year.
Looking forward to getting ready for the coming season,I will post more when I start working on the boat. Going to add a bowsprit so I can fly my genaker for light airs.
I sure miss Joe`s posts, it`s a shame, bloody cancer....

I miss Joe too. I lost my wife to cancer. Still miss her.

you guys lost a gem in Joe. What a sailor and good friend.
Regarding the topic, I and my wife fell in love with the boats and the water and the sailing community. We sold everything, bought a boat and are living full time aboard. We r currently outfitting an IP31 in Brunswick and gaining the skills needed for cruising. We have no regrets whatsoever. It is great!
Best of luck and fair winds to you all. (And do yourselves a favor and peruse ole Joe's albums and posts)

And fair winds to you too Keith on your new life. Who knows where you'll end this chapter. Our run here was challenging, informative, rewarding, stimulating and fun.

The Quest family is still on the coast but have the boat in a disheveled mess while slowly working on a couple of projects. Slowly.

Winter time and we have had an unusual run of cold and wet weather this winter so laying low over winter like others.

Good to hear the updates from folks. Stay warm and dry for now.

You guys are making me homesick for the sea! It's February in Portland, Maine , and there isn't a lot of people on the water. I lost Room 25 in a divorce April 1, but managed to buy another one (Oday 25) in Sept. from the guy I work with - very nice of him. Have started rehabbing that- all new bulkheads, mast post, back plating, varnish, water, electrical, etc.
As we all know, the work on them can be daunting, but there is nothing like dropping the boat into the water and settling in, spending days away from home.
I'd like to say thanks to all of you that have helped me with problems through the years....just knowing I'm not the only one who had had something supposedly easy go wrong is a boost : there is a solution out there someplace. Usually in here!

Agree with Ritdog. Getting started sailing would have been a lot harder and more expensive if not for this forum. This includes Joe, RIP, who's knowledge of O'days and willingness to help was always appreciated.

Hurry up Spring!!!!

hello all

it snowed again last night here... dropped about 2 inches... I have a breathing problem from my time in the military, coupled with this cold weather, I have a very hard time breathing outside... my lungs tighten up and I cannot catch my breath, and I start coughing and cannot stop...I have seriously been thinking about moving to Florida (pare a dice)...lol...

I have looking at real estate in Florida, and some live aboard sailboats to buy... my wife is not use the cold weather... she was just complaining to me about freezing in her home town right now at 57 degrees... she has on a heavy jacket in her house trying to stay warm...while I have below 0 degree temps here...

it just isn't fair... as soon as I can arrange everything, I will be Florida bound and down...

Well aside of the weather I was reviewing my friends list only to see Trinkka and the little offline notice and couldn't help feeling just a bit depressed. Strange how the little things take on more meaning when you think about them. Alas he preceeded us to the eternal and truly lived while here. So to those still here be careful and have fun. Most of us have discovered not to just pass through on the way to the grave, but to sieze every moment and savor every adventure. That's living and that's sailing. Now for some spring please.

Agreed, Joe. I have had the same feelings, coming here lately. It's funny how someone I've never met could leave such an empty space with their absence; it's a tribute to his spirit that we feel this loss so deeply. I may never make another mod to a boat without thinking what the old fuzzy faced cap'n would think of it.
