I have a 78 Catalina with a 30hp Atomic 4. The prop that is currently on it is a 2 blade composite which is badly damaged. What can I replace it with? What do you recommend 2 or 3 blade? What shaft size does it need to be?
Two blade may give extra sail performance and three will give extra power performance. Newer Catalinas have a standard three blade that is useless in reverse. Consult with a mechanic about pitch if reverse performance is important to you.
Hello PA. The standard propellers for the Atomic four engine is a 12” x 5” three blade and a 12” x 6” two blade. You will need to confirm that you have a 1:1 reduction in the transmission, the propeller shaft diameter and what the propellers rotation is. Two blade will give you apx. same sailing speed as you get now and the three blade will slow it down apx. 5% when compared to the two blade. Hope this helps. Kevin
