So now Bonnie is headed this way. Worrying the hell out of me. If we get 6' or more of tidal surge, boat will no longer be sitting on stands. I'm going to bust my but, and try to get the bottom done and get her back in the water by Sat. afternoon. Will have to skip a couple of items I wanted to get done, but right now the most important thing is getting her back into the water and to a safer location.

If I were a right wing nut I would say that god is punishing the gulf coast for __________________(fill in the blank). But sometimes sh*t happens. The storm may do other things in other places but getting the boat into the water on your terms is the best plan.

Weasel, There are small g gods and a large G god. satire and humor are never far from me. As for being left or right wing nuts I am just a nut. I got over being concerned with following this or that crowd many years ago. lol ;)

Noaa doesn't show it reaching hurricane force, just a tropical stormso winds greater than 39 but less than 72. Shouldn't be too bad but very good idea to take precautions. These things can change and forecasters have been wrong. you can always launch and then haul again. Probably cost you 500 bucks for another round trip but might give you time to do the bottom they way you want. with the cost of paint at 200 plus and your boat needing two gallons you don't want to do a rotten bottom job.

I am heading to Mandeville today to tie up better.. I don't think we'll have a lot of wind but the 5-6 foot of surge numbers are probably about right. The lake is already a couple of feet above normal from the southeast winds .. Looks like the storm is going to add to that..

Right Kloudie

I don't think people not from this area realize that the surge is usually worse than the winds. Had about 3' of high water last week from the SE winds, and water is still above normal. As low as the marina is, I think a 6' surge would float mine away. Gonna get it back home where I can secure it and not have to worry.

Re: Right Kloudie

The land down there is like a table top and a storm surge is a glass of spilled milk. just a little bit goes a long way. I wish you all well and am glad that the oil has stopped flowing. It will still be a mess.

I think it is moving too fast to bring much surge to Mandeville. Should not be more than a couple of feet. We get more than that with the strong east winds during winter. But as Kloudie says we are still up a couple of feet more than normal for this time of year. Storm is moving close to 20 knots now. I am going down to be ready just in case. I just hope it doesnt stall in the gulf.

Bonnie's path goes right over my house. Glad the boat is still sitting in the front yard and not down at the marina. Flooding may be a problem due to surge but i do not anticipate it getting past the levees around my neighborhood. good luck to all.

It looks like the gulf coast dodged the bullet for a change.. You get worse storms than this one and don't take much notice.
