Eric Stone

I, like most, enjoy Buffett, but if you've not listened to Eric Stone's material then you are missing out. I like his first to CD's best. He has material for sailing and/or scuba related. He and the "Stoners" are at most of the boat shows - he is sponsored by Lats & Atts. Fair winds, Bill

I Lean ....Quinn

Eileen Quinn is what Buffett would sing if he were REALLY a sailor. If you look around her web site there are samples of a lot of her music. It isn't Bluegrass. It's BlueWATER.

a musical victory

How about Richard Rodgers "Victory At Sea" - a fine rousing sound with which to enter a harbor - and if you are feeling really up, try Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyrie".

Enya's "In Memory Of Trees". It's great esp first thing at dawn. Then follow with Van Morrison or Rod Stewart... :D

My Admiral doesn't like Buffet either,

I swithced to Reggae (Bob Marley). After a while a desire for peace and quiet takes over.

A musicians point of view

I usually don't listen to music underway. I enjoy the sounds of the boat and the sea. At port, music is on constantly - even all night.

Agreed

I've found that most of the time I actually enjoy the music off while I sail because I enjoy the sound of the water. I can listen to the radio anytime, but hearing the sound of the water splash around and all the little noises the boat makes I can't get during the week. Just like when I wake up in the morning from being anchored, I like hearing the birds instead of the radio...especially the no talent bands that actually make it on air these days.

I am suprized that

Out of 30 replys, unless I missed one,no one mentioned Classical Music.especially the older standard stuff. With the exception of Rap, all the music mentioned I also like. But should be the need to raise the volume, it would be for the classics. My boating friend has country on everywhere,,boat, car, garage, basement. I don't have to play country on my boat as I get enough. Interesting note though. I have been retired a year now, as a New Ford and Chevy salesman and when I would take a test drive in the trade-in,, 9 out of 10 times the radio was tuned to "country".

Kenny Chesney's "Be As You Are"

Okay, I live in the south and am one of those "displaced yankees", so traveling thru south Georgia sometimes requires you either listen to country or gospel and that can be tough! BUT, I have to tell ya, that their is a CD you have to listen too that is pure islands and sailing and thats by Kenny Chesney. He lives part time on his 60 foot Searay in the Virgins, but has a great love of the sea and any sailor could relate to the songs on his "Be As You Are" CD, especially track 12, "Soul of a Sailor". Its one of the best I have ever heard. If you a Buffet fan, this one needs to go in your vault. Bob "Breezin II"

Bach is best music

J. S. by just about anyone for classical and Gordon for nautical ballads. Nat King Cole is quality music with words that have an actual meaning that I can relate to. Then there is Goodman. Benny and Steve are very different but we like both. Put up the spinnaker and listen to: Isaac Stern Andrea Bocelli Sarah Brightman Celine Dion Charlotte Church Maev and other Celtic Women Several Irish tenors Soothing music such as: several versions of Pachelbel Enya several Celtic groups Acoustic Alchemy Windham Hill releases Jean Pierre Rampal Carl Orff Leo Kottke Earl Klugh Jean Luc Ponty Chuck Mangione Many more which do not require 200 watt amplifiers.... Country is good if it isn't off key and or too pathetic. Rap is crap. Noise is for boys. Like Franklin said, too, quiet is nice much of the time.

Quiet is good

I am glad to see that so many of us prefer the "sound of sailing" over the sound of electricly reproduced "music". I really hope that sub-woofers never catch on with boaters!

I Sing

When I'm happy and sailing, I sing. If I have to be quiet, I hum. Mark

Quiet is good....

...but sometimes music is better. Of course I am one of those people that likes to be listening to music at all times. To each their own.... -- Jeremy
