What magazines do you read?

I just got a solicitation from "Soundings" magazine for a 12-month rate of $20.00. They don't offer a trial issue but do promise to refund unused portion of the price if I don't like it. It's also not 100% sailing. They write about power boats as well.

I already read "Sail" and "Sailing" magazines and like them alot. I tried "Sailing World" but it was 100% for racers. I don't race so it was of no interest to me. I also tried "Good Old Boat" but didn't want to pay their rate. (I'd really like to have it but still don't want to pay their rate.)

Do y'all read "Soundings" and is it a good magazine? Do y'all have any other suggestions?

I've only read the latest issue of Good Old Boat. Like you I feel it's overpriced.
I read Sail, Practical Sailor, Boar US, 48 North, and a few others on occasion.

i only read lectronic latitude.....i am too busy being "out here" and i found most alleged sailing rags are merely advertisements. when anything in them is of interest, someone will bring that article to me....is kinda cool.

I currently subscribe to Sail, Sailing, Soundings, Practical Sailor and for the power boat side of me Boating; which was a gift subscripton and very informative. I did subscribe to two other sailing mags but current plan is to let all subscriptions run out and to start some extensive traveling by boat and whatever. I am also a 30+yr member of Boat U.S. I have 4 other magazine's comeing into the house also, soon to expire. I have subscribed to the first two for over 30yrs. and the next two for @15-20yrs.. I have found all invaluable at one time or another. Other magazines have come and gone along the way. If I had to limit the choices the two I most likely would choose are Sail and Practical Sailor.

I find Good Old Boat gives me the information I most want. It does cost more but the pages are not stuffed with advertisements. I get all other sailing articles over the internet.

I just started getting Small Craft Advisor. Great magazine. Like Good Old Boat it is kinda of pricey but you get what you pay for.
Used to read Southwinds and just checked it out online, you can subscribe for home delivery for $2 a pop ($24/year) or read it free online at southwindssailing. com.

If you like "Sail" you will like "Cruising World"....... similar layout and good deals on subscriptions.

As you would expect, CW does not have racing related content..... the emphasis is on destinations, "how to" articles, boats and equipment for the non racing sailor.

I subscribe to Sail, Cruising World - I pay for both and find it well worth it. Through boat shows and such, I end up with free subscriptions to Sailing World (which as stated here is all about racing which I'm not that into) and Boating (hey - its free and I sometimes get some good tips that carry-over).

I find Boat US informative too. I always wonder if someone actually pays the $5.99 that Boating has on its cover? I thumb through it on the throne once and pitch it.

Currently Latitudes and Attitudes, Sail, and Cruising World. Tried Sailing, Practical Sailor and This Old Boat. Next cut will probably be Cruising World. To many ads in both Cruising World and Sail. Both have half the mag dedicated to them.

and started to repeat the same stuff. In some cases, info was plain wrong, mostly by generalizations. In most cases, the older articles had more information.

I do miss Fatty Goodlander in CW, but I check it out on line sometimes.

I no longer subscribe to any magazines. My wife says I have to clean up the old piles. :)

Since we have already spent the best part of 3 years as live aboard cruisers Crusing World wasn't interesting anymore. I still receive Sail, Sailing and Sailing World. I enjoy the tech articules and photos.
We do subscribe to too many other mag's and the project ideas my wife finds in them seriously dig into my sailing time.

I subscribe to Sail (US), Cruising World (US), Practicable Boat Owner (UK) and Yacht Monthly (UK). Practical Boat Owner (PBO) is by far the best (for me) I've come across.

I only subscribe to mags that give me a yearly rate around $12 a year.

In the past, I've subscribed to Sail, Cruising World, Practical Sailor and Good Old Boat. Now I only get Good Old Boat (my favorite) and Sail (only because you can send them $7 for a year subscription).
In the past, I've justified the cost of subscriptions by the fact that we didn't pay for cable or satellite TV. We now have basic cable (it came bundled with our internet) and gain more knowledge and ideas from Good Old Boat and this forum than any television program that I feel it's worth the price even if cable has to be part of the bundle.
