I have a catalina 25 with a 9.9 outboard,It is attatched to a transon engine mount.I am replacing the motor and the dealer tells me I can use a 20 inch and don't need a 25 inch shaft that the 9.9 sailmaster has.My question is won't I have to use the middle or lower anjustment to use a shorter shaft motor? It seems to me If I use a shorter shaft the shift lever would be way to low to get at. Thanks Bob.

Get the 25" shaft

Your dealer has never sailed a C25 or he would know that the 25" shaft (or longer, Honda makes a 28") is the best way to go. That extra 5" means a lot when the waves kick up and the prop starts coming out of the water. The shift lever is going to be the same distance from the operator regardless of the length of the shaft. My new Yamaha 9.9 has the shifter on the throttle handle, much more handy. Ed
