My recently acquired boat has the topsides painted with a two part paint. According to the PO it was done two years ago, but he has no idea of what was used. Since different brands have different maintenance regimes, is there any way of telling what has been used? Right now the topsides shine and look great and I would like to keep them that way.

Well

As far as i know using something like Awlcare which is made for Awlgrip should be safe on most anything

The issue is some paints like Awlgrip and Perfection only have gloss in a very thin layer thats formed when they dry

I used Perfection and I am very happy with the results. Until you are sure what kind of paint was used, do not use a power buffer. You can hand wax and hand buff Perfection, but a power buffer will destroy the gloss.
