I am interested in the Lewmar folding wheel and they have two kinds. One for Lewmar/Whitlock wheels with a tapered hub and an Edson type with a parallel hub. Does anyone know what kind of steering Hunter sailboats used?

Thanks, Rip

The "hub" on my '86 has non-tapered threads. Hope this helps.:)

I just put a Lewmar folding wheel on my 29.5. It comes with adapters to fit either tapered or parallel shafts. Mine was an Edson 1" parallel shaft, I believe that is the standard.

Yes, the steering is Merriman and the company is out of business.. but the shaft is 1"and not tapered.
I downloaded some Merriman steering detail to this site .. Under "Boat info", Click on "Downloads, General Info" and go down to Merriman.. Does not mention the wheel, but there is a lot of other good info..

From what I know, if you buy the Lewmar folding wheel from chandlers, you'll get both parallel and taper hub. If you get from Hunter Marine, it'll be taper. Got mine from Hunter.
