i was scraping the bottom of my 1977 hunter 25 and i am not sure if it a two and half foot or three foot deep. but it has was looks like a skinny torpedo shape on the bottom that extends past the keel..and is this a good keel for bays and blue water?.is this a stong boat?.Wes

Sounds like shoal draft?

The shoal draft keel is long, and stubby, and fat. It gives you access to shallow water, at the price of less ability to point into the wind. It has no effect on the stability or strength of the boat. The thickness of fiberglass used in the 70's and early 80's, combined with a solid "grid" of glassed in timbers make this hull much stonger than current designs. The questions should only be do you have rot, or damage that could compromise the hull. David Lady Lillie

David. this keel has a

snall shape that looks the same as other boats its about 3x3ft in the center of the boat and hanging on the bottom is a round tube looking thing that looks like a peice of 3" pipe from the keel towards the stern about 1'past keel it looks to be made as part of the keel.also i havent seen any lumber in the boat hull it looks like solid fiberglass hull but i could be wrong..is this an unusual boat?..25'hunter.Wes
