What kind of boat is this?

It used to be a sailboat, now it appears that it is a fishing boat. I can’t imagine a rudder being mounted successfully on the transom, where that big motor mount is. Looks a lot like a put down O’day. :badbad:

This boat has platforms molded into the deck for the winches. None of the pics of the Mariners I saw had those; the ones that had winches looked to be mounted on the flat top of the coaming. Maybe some years did have such molded platforms, otherwise though it does resemble an O'Day, prob is not.

19' Oday, depends on what is under the tarp but the Oday has a similar bow pulpit
DayDreamer's picture is of a pre 1972 O'day Mariner 19. All mariners had cabins. Their hulls were the same mold as the Rhodes 19. The O'Day 19 is a different boat and had a small cutty cabin too.
The angled transom seems distinctive.
That's three and four down, ...

By the way, lots of mariners have after market pulpits. Only modern Stewart Marine Mariners come with pulpits, as far as I've seen.

The boat still has a traveler / mainsheet (?) block sitting on the stern. That suggests it is being sailed. The bow has a slight hollow which seems more like the Oday.

You know I was looking for that as well, but, if you look at the track is sure is a funny angle to the winch, which leads me to believe that both may have been added somewhere along the line. How many boat of this size have winches? not many really so it is reasonable to think that they were added.
That winch has a circular spot on the coaming just for it.

If you look closely at the transom photo you can see the motor mount is well to the side of the rudder gudgeon. She is still a sailboat.

I don't think this boat is in the 19' - 20' range but more like the 16' - 17' range.
How about a late 60's MFG Readhead 17?

There are some small differences, especially around the aft deck, no molded spinnaker winch mount on the combing, but this looks pretty close to me. Small cuddy cabin, large hull to deck seem, long bow overhang and angled transom with more squared chine than the O'Days.

The OP is obviously not that interested, they have a whopping (1) post and have not been back since, unless of course they are waiting in the wings. A shot with the tarp off sure would be helpful in the arduous task of identifying our mystery vessel, it must be winter............ to find entertainment in such a puzzle.

Simon, the OP, lives in Texas, what is cold and wintery there doesn't hold much traction for most of the rest of us. I think he's just watching to see who gets it right. Or, he's too busy restoring yet another sailboat to resell for huge profits. If I had his energy and drive, I'd be set for life by now.

Simon isn't the OP. It is a person from PA who was last here 7 minutes ago.

My sincerest apologies to both Simon and Writetoof. I was sure I'd read Simon's name on the OP.
PA Winters are certainly harsher than Texan Winters.

I am set for life, as long as I don't buy anything...........
I'm also set for life, if it doesn't last much longer, and I'm getting to the point in my life where that feels more and more like a possibility:meh:

On another thread with the theme being the moon landing, many were professing their age in 1969 (lunar landing), looking at those responses had me remain silent, I have them all beat, if that is any type of reward.

Survival is it's own reward. Looks like your still kicking..
I too was quiet listening to where and what they were doing.
It is not often discussed, but the first person to pilot a rocket ship into space was a Naval Pilot. Alan Shepard... Uncle Alan.
