I found his last night under the V berth mattress. I know it's not a spare rudder. paulj

Looks like a mattress board...

commonly used in hotels guests that need a firmer sleeping platform. This appears to have been made for one side of the bed...probably one spouse requires a firmer mattress than the other.

what

you don't show the berth, but on the catalina 30 there is a board in the crotch of the v-berth that lets the small little cushion have suport and to have a full triangular and not a v- sleeping surface. maybe that's what it is. let me know.

I don't recognize it...

It certain did come with the boat. I was wondering if perhaps the previous owner made a replacement for one of the boards that cover the storage areas under the berths. The shape doesn't look familiar to me though, so I don't think that's it. Does the shape match that of either of the settee's?

Board is definitily optional

I'm sure that board wasn't originally part of the boat. The shape doesn't match any part of the boat, and besides, I've never seen that type of wood used in a catalina (or any other boat for that matter). If you are not the original owner, then asking the original owner may be the only way to find it's purpose. If you are the original owner, then you better talk to your crew. :)

Looks like you have another berth...

It's always troubled me that Catalina didn't make that table collapse into another berth. I've always wondered why, since so many of their other boats do. Do you have a shorter table post to support it? And another cushion to level things out a bit? I wouldn't surprised if the cushion from the starboard side settee fits in there nicely!

PJ, just go sailing

and figure out the rest of the stuff later. Believe me, it'll all become apparent, sooner or later. Thanks again for the "relay" on the C25 Assoc. 'site.

Interesting - Dimensions?

Not sure I need an extra berth, but in a couple of years grandkids may be a reality. What are the dimensions on that board (angles on the corner would help), and what is the length of the pipe? Were there any other modifications to the berth such as support boards on the sides of the settee?

Mystery Board

Are you supposed to try and sleep on that board in that position? Where are the 2 types of tables that one normally has that position? TICTACIII

away

Well I'm baby sitting the kids kids in California while they are on a scuba thing in Cancoon until March 1st. When I get back I will look at the extra bed setup to see if it would be practical to use and take measurements and pictures. When I went through the boat taking inventory I found 16 life vests. The PO must have had a lot of guests. paulj

Short Post

My boat came equipped as new with a short version of the table support post, that allows you to put the dining table at a level that could be used as a berth. The starboard settee cushion sort of fits in an awkward way, but this whole idea is pretty crude. It doesn't look comfortable, and I would only put the lightest of babies on it, since the corners are not supported. Thankfully, I've only had one overnight guest at a time.

Those orange life vests are like cats,

put one in a closet and when you return there are 4.
